Tastes like: Sweet Fruit | Vanilla | Plum
This lovely Burundi was sourced by Nordic Approach and comes to us from the Sehe washing station in Shibitoke, Burundi. Specifically the commune of Bukinyanana. I think besides having some damn tasty coffee Burundi also has the best town names in the coffee game.
This washing station is one of several owned by producer Salum Ramahdan. He’s been partnering with Nordic Approach for a few years now, and is cranking out some really stellar coffees.
Most of the coffees I have tasted from his washing stations are notable for their great structure and awesome sweetness. Crystal clear acidity, super nice complexity, and nice clean finishes are his hallmarks. Burundi often is overlooked when it comes to African coffees, but don’t sleep on this one it’s a stunner.
Process - Washed and shade dried
Varietal(s) - Bourbon
Altitude - 2,200 masl
Harvest - December 2018
Approach - This coffee is so nice we mostly just try to get out of the way when roasting. We are aiming to let as much of the coffees natural sweetness and acidity shine through on this one. That being the case this coffee would be perfect for a batch or craft brew method. It can anchor a pour-over menu. Only the real coffee heads will want to feature this coffee as espresso, but when they do look out. You are going to get a bright clean shot that will knock your socks off.
