Hang on folks because the last release of the year is also hands down the best. We really wanted to celebrate the holidays this year, and instead of doing the “Holiday blend” thing we decided to release two amazing micro-lots from two of our favorite producers. To cap off the holiday season we are releasing this natural processed geisha lot from the award winning team at Finca Inmaculada.
Inmaculada has been a force in the coffee industry since 2013 when Intelligentsia coffee in Chicago featured their extremely rare varietal microlots as part of their first ever sensory summit, and since then Inmaculada has continued to grow their reputation for quality. Just this past fall, coffees from Inmaculada took home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place at the World Barista Championship. I’m not a World Barista Championship historian, but I’m pretty sure that is the only time one farm has swept the podium.
This particular little lot is the famed gesha (sometimes called geisha) varietal. Gesha is an ethiopian heirloom varietal that for most of 20th century farmers hated because it produces very small trees and has a low crop yield. However about 20 years ago more quality focused producers recognized the insane flavor gesha coffees can produce, often bursting with fruit juice flavors that other varieties just can not reach. Geishas are considered by many to be the pinnacle of arabic coffees and it’s easy to see why when you taste this amazing lot from Inmaculada. Bursting with orange citrus and phosphoric acidity, an intensely sweet body, and a wonderfully delicate floral finish, this is a one of a kind coffee that you don’t want to miss. It’s our gift to you this holiday season.
