Tastes like: Fuji Apple | Dark Chocolate | Toffee
Our second coffee from producers Los Volcanes Coffee is a super sweet and round regional blend from San Martin Jilotepeque. All the coffee is grown by the Kaqchikel community in San Martin, and this coffee is a blend from many different producers. Los Volcanes processes the coffee at their mill, La Esperanza, in Antigua, where they handle all the wet and dry-milling, and separate and build the lots.
The community in San Martin has been hard-hit in recent years by climate change. Two years of drought, and before that a leaf rust epidemic, devastated harvests, and farmers are still struggling to make up for lost harvests. Make no mistake, coffee farmers in central Guatemala are extremely at risk to changing climate, and San Martin is already feeling the effects.
It’s a very challenging situation for farmers, but one that LVC is committed to improving. Los Volcanes, along with Nuemann Group (one of the world’s largest coffee producers) and ANAcafe (the Guatemalan federal coffee association) have been working in San Martin for several years now, improving not only the physical infrastructure on farms, but also helping farmers improve their harvesting techniques to improve both quality and yield.
Despite all the challenges, San Martin Jilotepeque produces some truly spectacular coffee. Round body, clean fruity acidity, and loads of sweetness, the coffees coming out of this little town are really a joy to drink.

Approach - The goal with this coffee is to give it a real traditional medium roast. Let the coffee’s natural sugars express themselves to the fullest, and give it enough roast to be a crowd pleaser. The great thing about Guatemalan coffee is that it can appeal to everyone from your grandparents to the most discerning coffee snob. Chocolate, caramel, and fruit tones dominate, but this coffee is clean and complex enough to never get boring. Dark enough to pair really well with milk, but also light enough to shine on it’s own. I love Guatemalan coffee and it’s because of ones like these.
