Tastes like: orange, wild honey, marzipan
Finca El Durazno, owned and operated by Gilberto Marquez, has been growing corn and beans for quite awhile, but added coffee to their arsenal only about 8 years ago. Enthusiasm for coffee was high at the time, but soon thereafter Honduras was hit by an extremely bad outbreak of coffee leaf rust, known as La Roya, that decimated local coffee production. Gilberto and other farmers in the area have been fighting to get back on their feet since then, and in the last several years have switched almost entirely to specialty coffee production from the commercial grade cultivation they initially started with.
I personally love coffee from Honduras, and have been watching with awe the last several years as the team at Beneficio San Vincente have produced some of my personal favorite coffees so I was super stoked to be able to buy this lot they produced from farmer Gilberto Marquez. This coffee is pretty much everything I love about Honduran coffees. A vibrant but not overwhelming citrus acidity is perfectly balanced by loads of sweetness and a clean aftertaste.
Process - Fully Washed
Varietal(s) - Yellow Catuai, Lempira
Altitude - 1,650 masl
Harvest - Summer 2019
Approach - Very easy to roast coffee full of sweet flavors. We roast this coffee to a light-medium level, seeking to retain the delicate citrus acidity while also bringing as much sweetness out as we possibly can. Round, and sweet this coffee embodies everything we’ve come to love about coffees from Central America.
