Our first dark roast single origin coffee is this stellar Kenya from the Kabare Konyu Co-op. Dark roasts have a bad reputation, but when done well they can highlight the terroir of a coffee while at the same time creating a roast that has incredible balance without being overwhelmingly acidic or bitter. This dark roast is bursting with sweetness, has a wonderful tangerine sweetness, and loads of chocolate to balance everything nicely.
Buying Kenyan coffee is fun. Every lot you try is delicious, and in many ways you feel spoilt for choice. I choose this lot from Konyu Co-op based on the delicious candied grape sweetness that set this lot apart from other samples

Approach - Our goal is to create a dark roast that balances sweet chocolate flavors with delicate acidity and doing so in a way that promotes sweetness and is free of any "dark roast" flavors like smoke or earth. The result is a wonderfully sweet and strong dark roast that shows how tasty dark roast coffee can be and is great as an espresso or a drip coffee.
