Tastes like: grilled fruit, cream, toffee

It’s not often you will find me featuring a coffee from Papua New Guinea. It’s not that I’m a snob, it’s just super rare for us to get a really good one over to this side of the world. PNG grows some spectacular coffee, but due to any number of circumstances most of it ends up staying in Asia. Asian coffee companies have Indonesian coffees locked down. They put in a ton of QC work there and they reap the rewards. As a result, we Americans tend to end up with coffees that are totally adequate, but perhaps a bit boring. Great coffees to be sure, but probably not up to the level of what we are looking to feature on our single origin menu.
Welp folks, buckle that metaphorical seatbelt because we finally came across a totally killer PNG and I am very stoked to feature it. This is a fully washed coffee, itself kind of rare for PNG, coming to us from the Kimel Estate outside of Banz in the Western Highland Province. Kimel estate not only grows their own coffee, but also processes daylots for up to 400 other farmers all throughout the Wahgi Valley. And, if this coffee is any indication they are dang good at processing coffee. It has that creamy body and grilled fruit flavor that reminds me of a super high end Sulawesi coffee, and all the depth of flavor of a very clean processed Central American coffee. This one is seriously killer.
